Making the best out of a cloudy day...
I believe the sun came out once this weekend and that was on Saturday while I talked a neighbor only to go back end and see the disappearing glare of sunlight into a dreary gray that has maintained its stance through today. Instead of hibernating as I have the custom of doing I decided to sit outside and write about what is delightful about this dreary day.
Upon opening my door, the first image is the rebellious moringa. Watching the progress of this tree has been very interesting to say the least. It went from wobbly seedsin a pod that I threw in a pot (since seeds don't like to grow when seed them nicely lol) to this large tree that I've had to cut back twice to prevent it from crashing the house. Being the sensitive nature lover that I am (except for when I plant seeds 🤣) I felt so bad about cutting back such a beautiful tree that has so many benefits to the environment. I'll share a few:
Their roots can support filtering of pollutants in underground water systems
Their seeds are known to clean water
The leaves are used for tea and soups which does overnight wonders for breaking fevers and reducing bloating and gas
Flowers have a beautiful scent and are great for oils and perfumes
Those are my tidbits about this herbal tree. While there is some information out there that says not all moringas are equal, I beg to differ. Looking at the way this baby grows, it's a fighter nonetheless and one that has battled the seasons to make sure myself and nature can benefits from its provisions. Did I mention how fussy they are? The leaves can give off a loud peppery smell if I come tussling with them. We have conversations too. They are usually played out like this:
Me: Hi there! You are luscious and bold today!
Moringa: 🌳
Me: Chillle...you keep growin so rude with nan behavior!
Moringa: 🌳
Me: Looks like I gotta cutcha back some uhgin
Moringa: 🙄
This is a repeated conversation everytime I see a new branch reaching to touch the sky. They care not about my suggestions about grow out instead of up and over. They care not about the struggle I have in having to climb up and cut down. While I would really want to harvest right now, the rainy season makes it risky. Bottom line is me and my moringa have a love/hate relationship where their growth while desired is needing some work so that it's not having its own revolution. Ughhh revolution in this case though is exciting and great to see. It reminds me of those who grow like this moringa; amazing people with nan behavior who bust through their potted foundations to establish new roots and then then rapidly take off. When describing the moringa to my friend Tina I would often start singing Civil Rights song like "Ain't gonna let nobody turn me roun," or "Ohhhh freedom" because I really feel that this dear moringa is singing these songs to me whenever I see a new branch and have that convo. Hilariousness indeed.
The wind is nice and calm which take away a bit of the dreariness. I hear birds chirping like it sunny and pigeons engaging in their daily conversation about ...who da hell knows. They tickle me as they look down at me possibly thinking the same thing...car traffic is not far off but for now the space I'm in is enclosed with the sound of nature being nature. Feral cats purring around the corner probably looking to "circle of life" a birdie. Ants are moving like they preparing for war under my feet. They rude too. They have been moving through books and crannies of the house walls as if to say, "we are reclaiming what's ours". Not as rebellious as our friend the moringa, but they can.
Anyhow, the noise of nature is now intervened by the sound of pop music blaring from neighbors on the other side of my house. They tend to play music on festive occasions though today is dreary and now ecoming wet as the drizzle begins to fall. Ughhh...thats my sign to head indoors. Hoping to reconvene with you all on a sunny day and a different vibe. Until then, be well this flu season and take some moringa.

If you want some of my rebellious moringa, order from the shop today. Moringa is great to take for colds, flus, and digestive issues. Try some today.
